Rehearsals

We rehearse on Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:15 pm, during the autumn and spring terms, and have one or two choral workshops at other times. Singers should please bring all music to every rehearsal. Rehearsals mostly take place in the Parish Centre at Little Saint Mary’s Church on Trumpington Street. We ask choir members to:

  • Attend as many rehearsals as possible and tell us in advance (by noting it on the register) if you’ll be away.
  • Arrive by 7:20 pm ready for a prompt start at 7:30 pm.
  • Bring a pencil and all the term’s music.
  • Check this page before rehearsals and familiarise yourself with the pieces. It helps if you come to rehearsals aware of any parts you’re finding difficult.

Autumn term 2026: Thursday 17 September to Thursday 26 November, concert 21 November
Please note, there will be no half-term break as we have just 10 rehearsals this term before our concert on 21 November.

In our first few rehearsals, as well as looking at other pieces, we will work on these main challenges:

  • The Armed Man: the middle ‘Christe Eleison’ section from the ‘Kyrie’ (pages 4-7).
  • And The Mother Did Weep: the middle section (pages 4-7).
  • John Rutter Anthems: The Choral Amen (pages 62-64).
  • I Too Shall Walk to Bethlehem – the parts where voices divide.
  • My Lord Has Come.

We will then:

  • Spend a couple of rehearsals troubleshooting problematic areas.
  • Devote the final few rehearsals to practising the whole programme for familiarity.

Full attendance and prior preparation – ready for the first rehearsal! – will be essential to our success in the concert.
