Events in 2018

Christmas Dinner 2018
On 12 December 2018, nearly 40 choir members, friends and partners sat down to an excellent Christmas celebration in the Old Library of Pembroke College. The venue was spectacular and the food just as good. Many thanks to Nina Rhodes and Joanna Lubanska of Pembroke College and their teams of chefs and waiters, who looked after us so well. In particular, we owe Stephen Halliday a great big thank you for making the whole evening possible.  Stephen also entertained us with an informative account of the history of the Library. Richard Scurr gave us a brief summary of the year and some dodgy choir jokes, and then Claire, our Chair, accepted a presentation in thanks for her efforts this year.

‘Serenity’ concert

1 December 2018

Our next concert – entitled Serenity – to be held at Pembroke College Chapel, is to be performed in conjunction with The Pembroke Choir and the new Pembroke College Girls Choir. It will be on 1 December at 7.30pm, and admission is free.

A change at the top

We are sorry to announce that Anna Lapwood has decided to step down as our Music Director, as her ever-expanding range of activities means that she cannot continue to commit as fully to the choir as she would like. During her two years at the helm, Anna helped facilitate our move to Pembroke College and conducted us in a number of successful concerts with the Pembroke Choir. We thank her for her efforts on our behalf, wish her every success with her career in music, and look forward to the possibility of working with her and the Pembroke Choir again in the future.

We are delighted that James Dougal has agreed to become our Music Director. James comes to us as an organist, conductor and Cambridge mathematics graduate with a deep enthusiasm for amateur music making. He sings with the Pembroke Choir and has shared the stage with us on more than one occasion, so he could be said to know what he is taking on. James’ CV may be found elsewhere on the website. We welcome him to the Singers and look forward to working with him in the future.
