What we did in 2019
Last year our programme included rehearsals, concerts and collaborations with other musicians both in Cambridge and further afield.
Spring term

Early March saw two back-to-back concerts. On Saturday 9 March we sang Vivaldi’s Gloria at a ‘Come and Sing’ concert that was part of the Pembroke Festival of Voice. Our conductor was Pembroke’s Director of Music Anna Lapwood.
On Tuesday 12 March in our first collaboration with the Trumpington Street Orchestra, we performed Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir with them at their invitation, using a new arrangement of the music by their conductor. The concert took place in St Columba’s Church, Downing Street.
Summer term
This term, we worked towards a concert at Baldock Parish Church in mid-June where we sang with the church choir, accompanied by the organ and two baroque violinists.
We performed Vivaldi’s Gloria and a new arrangement of Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir. This was a fundraiser for Baldock Parish Church and by way of thanks, they gave us a delicious meal afterwards. We’re very happily planning another concert at Baldock in November 2020!
Autumn term

Mid-November saw us taking part in a ‘Come and Sing’ Evensong at Pembroke College Chapel, singing repertoire both familiar (Stanford’s Magnificat in B flat) and less well known (Ned Rorem’s Sing, my soul, his wondrous love). As we are part of the Pembroke College music scene, we regularly sing at services here.
In early December, we performed excerpts from Handel’s Messiah at a concert at Downing College with the Trumpington Street Orchestra. This was our second collaboration with them.
In mid-December we joined other Cambridge choirs to raise money for Wintercomfort for the Homeless by carol singing. We raised over £1,100 for this deserving cause with our singing in the Grand Arcade on Wednesday 11 December. Thanks to all who donated.
